Zoezi la IEBC la kusajili wapiga kura wapya nchini limeisha Jumanne, na maelfu ya vijana Mombasa wakosa kujisajili kwa kukosa vitambulisho vya kitaifa. Tume ilifanikisha kusajili 47,632 kati ya 73,280 waliolengwa, ikiwa asilimia 65. Mvita iliongoza kwa idadi kubwa ya wapya waliosajiliwa.

Tume ilipanua vituo vya usajili hadi 269, ikiwa na vituo vipya 42, ili kufikia vijana wengi. Hata hivyo, ukosefu wa vitambulisho ulikuwa changamoto kuu, hasa kwa vijana waliochelewa kupokea hati zao.

Mvita ilisajili wapiga kura wapya 16,671, ikifuatiwa na Changamwe yenye 14,289. Maeneo mengine kama Kisauni, Jomvu, Nyali na Likoni yalifikia chini ya asilimia 25 ya malengo yao. Kulingana na Msimamizi wa IEBC Mombasa, Dkt Swallah Yusuf, vitambulisho 23,137 havijachukuliwa katika afisi za Bima Towers, pamoja na wengine 147 katika Huduma Centre.

"Tulikuwa na lengo la kusajili 73,280 lakini tulifanikiwa kufikia asilimia 65, sawa na 47,632," alisema Dkt Yusuf. Aliongeza kuwa maombi 9,360 ya uhamisho ya vituo vya kura na marekebisho 137 ya taarifa yalipokelewa. Hakuna tukio la kiusalama lililoripotiwa.

Dkt Yusuf aliwahimiza vijana waliokosa vitambulisho kufika ofisi za IEBC au Huduma Centres kujisajili mwaka mzima kabla ya uchaguzi ujao.
