IEBC inawazia kuzuia wafungwa kuchagua rais pekee

Tume Huru ya Uchaguzi na Mipaka (IEBC) inawazia mabadiliko ya sera yatakayoruhusu wafungwa kupiga kura katika viti vyote vya uongozi isipokuwa urais. Hii itawapa wafungwa nafasi ya kuchagua gavana, seneta, mbunge na wengine kwa mara ya kwanza. Pendekezo hili linatokana na haki za kikatiba na uamuzi wa mahakama.

Wafungwa wana haki ya kikatiba kushiriki uchaguzi, na tutaweka mifumo itakayohakikisha wanapata nafasi hiyo,” alisema.

Tume inapanga kuwa magereza vituo rasmi vya kupigia kura, na kuruhusu maafisa wa magereza na familia zao kupiga kura hapo. Katiba ya Kenya inatoa haki hii kwa raia wazima wenye akili timamu ambao hawajatuhumiwa makosa ya uchaguzi miaka mitano iliyopita.
