Seneti inapendekeza marufuku ya miaka mitano kwa magavana wa zamani kugombea ubunge na udiwani

Seneti ya Kenya inachunguza mswada wa kurekebisha katiba ambao utawazuia magavana wa zamani kugombea viti vya wabunge wa taifa au wadiwani wa kaunti kwa miaka mitano baada ya kuondoka madarakani. Mswada huo unalenga kutoa nafasi ya kufanyiwa uchunguzi wa uwajibikaji bila kuingiliwa. Mitapo ya umma itafanyika Aprili 30 huko Nairobi.

Mswada wa Marekebisho ya Katiba ya Kenya, 2026 (Senate Bills No. 7 wa 2026) ulisomwa mara ya kwanza Senetini Machi 26 na umerejebishwa kwa Kamati ya Kudumu ya Sheria, Haki na Haki za Binadamu.

Kulingana na mswada huo, marufuku hiyo itaruhusu michakato ya uwajibikaji inayohusiana na udhibiti wa kifedha na kiutawala wa kaunti kukamilika. "Kuzuia magavana wa zamani kugombea uchaguzi kutaruhusu michakato yoyote ya uwajibikaji inayoendelea... kukamilika," inasema mswada.

Mswada pia unazungumzia hatari za migongano ya maslahi ikiwa magavana wa zamani wataingia Seneti au mabunge ya kaunti mara moja. "Mawakili wa usimamizi wataweza kufanya uchunguzi... bila kuingiliwa na mgavana wa zamani," inaongeza mswada.

Wananchi wanaweza kutoa maoni ya mdomo katika semina za umma Aprili 30 kuanzia saa 9 asubuhi katika Ukumbi wa KICC huko Nairobi. Hati zilizoandikwa zitakubaliwa hadi Mei 8 jioni.
