Miyamoto defends Nintendo focus on remakes

Nintendo legend Shigeru Miyamoto has spoken out in support of the company's ongoing emphasis on remaking older games.

In an interview with Famitsu, Miyamoto argued that remakes help extend the life of game series and introduce them to new players. He noted that many people stop playing games after about five years and that young audiences often lack access to titles from a decade earlier.

"Some people might say there are a lot of remakes, but after five years, a lot of people have outgrown games and stop playing them," Miyamoto said. "Young people today don’t have the opportunity to play games from 10 years ago, so remaking them to be more playable and releasing them again is a good way to meet the demand."

He added that sharing original games with audiences supports future developments in those franchises. Miyamoto stated that Nintendo has been actively pursuing this approach recently.

The comments come amid Nintendo's current lineup on the Switch 2, which includes new titles such as Donkey Kong: Bananza alongside remakes focused on series like Star Fox and an upcoming shift toward Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
