New ‘detect, detain, deport’ policy sparks exodus towards hakimpur border

India has rolled out a strict “3D Policy” of detect, detain and deport following a change in government. The move has prompted a mass exodus of undocumented immigrants toward the Hakimpur border in North 24 Parganas. Districts are now setting up holding centres for those awaiting repatriation.

Authorities have directed every district to create specialised holding centres under the new policy. Undocumented immigrants will be kept at these centres pending lawful repatriation.

The policy targets long-standing border security concerns and involves verification by the Border Security Force. Reports mention coordination with the Border Guard Bangladesh.

Greater Kolkata migrants have been seen moving toward the Hakimpur border point in response to the enforcement drive.
