Nintendo president promises to tackle Pokémon card scalpers

Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa told shareholders that the company is aware of Pokémon card scalping and plans to take steps to address it.

During a recent annual general meeting, Furukawa responded to a shareholder question about bulk buying and reselling of Pokémon cards. He said Nintendo would increase cooperation with marketplace platforms and expand made-to-order sales.

Furukawa noted that some online drawings in Japan already require government-issued identification. He added that Nintendo communicates with The Pokémon Company as needed on ways to deliver products to consumers.

“We believe that The Pokémon Company will continue to take measures to respond to this issue,” Furukawa said.

Two Nintendo customers have filed a class action lawsuit against the company, seeking refunds for higher prices paid due to now-invalidated tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump. The suit, filed on April 21 in the United States District Court’s Western District of Washington, argues that Nintendo passed tariff costs to consumers while pursuing government refunds. As first reported by Aftermath, the plaintiffs aim to prevent Nintendo from profiting twice from the same payments.
