Ransomware group threatens Nintendo with employee data leak

A group calling itself ShadowByt3$ has demanded a $2 million ransom from Nintendo, threatening to release employee data obtained from a third-party service.

The self-described extortion group published its initial threat on June 12, claiming possession of 859 megabytes of data from TinyPulse, an employee feedback platform used by Nintendo of America. The data is said to include names, email addresses, bank statements and internal messages.

The group gave Nintendo 48 hours to pay and later extended the deadline by one day. After Nintendo declined, ShadowByt3$ shifted its demand to TinyPulse on June 14, setting a new deadline of June 16.

Nintendo of America stated it is aware of the issue involving TinyPulse. The company confirmed its own systems remain uncompromised and that no customer or financial data was accessed.
