The Oyo State Police Command on Friday dismissed reports that one of the abducted schoolchildren had died, calling the claims false and aimed at creating panic. Governor Seyi Makinde also signed an executive order restricting okada operations to bolster security.
The police statement, issued by Public Relations Officer DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, said neither the command nor other security agencies had confirmed any such death. It described the report as malicious and without factual basis. The command warned that spreading unverified information could undermine rescue operations and urged the public to rely only on official channels. It provided emergency contacts including the toll-free line 615. In a related move, Governor Seyi Makinde signed Executive Order No. 002 of 2026 on Friday to strengthen security measures, including restrictions on okada operations and enforcement of vehicle registration rules.
