Police Service denies holding abducted persons in stations

The National Police Service has rejected allegations that officers are involved in abductions linked to recent protests. Spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga stated on Friday that no police stations are holding missing persons.

The National Police Service issued a statement on July 3 dismissing claims of abductions. Muchiri Nyaga said all arrests follow legal procedures and are recorded in the Occurrence Book before suspects appear in court.

Nyaga added that some reported disappearances were staged to undermine police credibility. The service urged the public to report credible information on missing persons to stations.

The response follows similar remarks by Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo and a report in The Standard newspaper. The Independent Policing Oversight Authority is investigating complaints from the June 25 protests including use of balaclavas and excessive force.
