Police launch manhunt for Kuresoi North MP Alfred Mutai after Nakuru clashes

The National Police Service has launched a manhunt for Kuresoi North MP Alfred Mutai following clashes at a youth empowerment event in Nakuru County on Friday that left three people with gunshot injuries.

The clashes erupted at Sirikwa Umoja Grounds in Kuresoi Sub-County during a Youth and Women Empowerment Programme attended by several political leaders. Preliminary investigations indicate a confrontation broke out between groups of suspected goons allied to the MP and supporters of Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika.

NPS Spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga said the service is pursuing the prime suspect, Hon. Alfred Mutai, who is currently on the run. Police urged the MP to present himself at the nearest police station to assist investigators.

Mutai dismissed the allegations, stating he only became aware of reports linking him to the chaos through social media. He said, “I did not witness all that is in the media. Up to now, I do not know what happened.”

A bus registration number KDQ 155G was set on fire during the disturbance. The incident occurred hours after President William Ruto directed Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen and security agencies to take firm action against political violence.
