Petro announces Ecopetrol contracts will not be extended

President Gustavo Petro stated during a council of ministers that Ecopetrol contracts nearing expiration will not be extended but will go through competitive processes. He said the company's board of directors must oversee compliance with this directive.

During a council of ministers on April 14, President Gustavo Petro addressed the expiration of several contracts at Ecopetrol, Colombia's state oil company. The president said these contracts, set to end soon, will not receive extensions and must undergo new competitive assignment processes.

Petro stressed: “los contratos de Ecopetrol que van a terminar no se prorrogan, pasan a procesos competitivos”. He noted these include labor outsourcing schemes and intermediaries, referring to “20 million contracts” ending this week that have been active for years under various actors.

The president also notified the attorney general about financial movements by some company executives, anticipating appropriate reviews. He insisted on ending automatic extensions to reform contract allocation at Ecopetrol.

The board of directors will oversee compliance with this directive, as stated by Petro.
