Rose-Marie gets new chance at apartment in Borlänge

Rose-Marie Pettersson has been promised a new apartment through the Bostad först project in Borlänge. She was evicted from her previous home two years ago but now receives a second chance.

24 homeless persons in Borlänge have received an apartment via Bostad först. The project started in 2024 and has no requirements for sobriety or investigation to qualify. Rose-Marie Pettersson has addiction issues and psychiatric diagnoses. She says: ”Bostad först has meant everything to me. They saw me as a person, not an addict.” The requirements are to follow rental law, pay rent on time and meet the team weekly. 90 percent of those who received housing in 2025 still remain. Matilda Andersson from the team states that other municipalities contact Borlänge to learn from the approach.
