In the Italian mountain village of Cortina d'Ampezzo, host of the curling events at the 2026 Winter Olympics, Swedish skip Isabella Wranå threw the very first curling stone in the mixed doubles tournament. The moment put her in the spotlight and marked Sweden's official Olympic start.
Minutes later, lights went out in parts of the arena—a surprise power outage that caused confusion. “You just have to take it as it comes. There's nothing we can do about it,” said Rasmus Wranå, Isabella's older brother and teammate, to SVT about the bizarre scenes.
Power was restored quickly, and the match against South Korea resumed. Sweden dominated and led clearly after six ends. The judge then chose to end the game early at 10–3, despite South Korea theoretically being able to turn the deficit.
Players were surprised by the decision. “It was a bit weird. They might have given up anyway. It didn't make much difference in this case,” commented Rasmus Wranå. The victory gives Sweden a strong opening in the tournament, with the Wranå siblings now looking ahead to their next match.
