Tribute concert for Syd Barrett's 80th birthday set in Cambridge

A tribute concert honouring late Pink Floyd founder Syd Barrett will take place in his hometown of Cambridge on October 10. The event marks what would have been his 80th birthday and coincides with World Mental Health Day. Proceeds from the show will support mental health charities.

The concert is scheduled at the Cambridge Corn Exchange, the venue of Barrett's final performance in 1972. Confirmed performers include Kula Shaker, Soft Machine, Men On The Border, Diana Silveira & The Psychedelic Circus, Radhika and Pünk Floyd.

Tickets go on sale at 10am on June 19. Neil Jones, co-organiser, said: “Eighty years after his birth, Syd Barrett’s influence remains as powerful as ever. His music, creativity and unique vision continue to inspire artists and audiences across generations.”

Barrett's sister Rosemary Breen added: “Syd would have been so happy and honoured to know his music was still being enjoyed in Cambridge.” An accompanying album of new and unreleased recordings is due on October 9, featuring contributions from Kula Shaker, David Gilmour and Nick Mason’s Saucerful of Secrets. A related exhibition of Barrett's artwork runs from October 3 to 9 at Cambridge Openspace.
