Tsitsipas reaches Swiss Open final after dramatic semifinal

Stefanos Tsitsipas advanced to the Swiss Open final in Gstaad after overcoming two falls in his semifinal match against Alexander Shevchenko. The Greek player defeated Shevchenko 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 to reach his first final in 16 months. He will face Raphael Collignon, who is contesting his first ATP Tour final.

Tsitsipas suffered two falls during the match that left him fearing a serious ankle injury. He twisted his ankle in the second set and fell again in the decider but completed the victory without apparent lasting damage.

After the match Tsitsipas described the experience in his post-match interview. “I broke a racket, I almost broke my leg… twice,” he said. “It was a very fun day, full of adventures. To be honest, something like this has never happened to me.”

The 27-year-old also reflected on the demands of top-level tennis. “You have to be a little masochistic to enjoy that suffering,” he added. “That’s what differentiates the best from the rest.”

Both Tsitsipas and Collignon have played multiple three-set matches to reach the final. The title match will be Tsitsipas’s 31st on the ATP Tour and his first on clay since the 2024 Barcelona Open.
