Zelda Link actor missed Breath of the Wild launch due to age

Benjamin Evan Ainsworth, the actor cast as Link in the upcoming live-action The Legend of Zelda movie, has revealed he did not play Breath of the Wild when it launched in 2017 because he was only eight years old and lacked a Switch console.

Ainsworth, now 17, told GamesRadar he watched playthroughs of the game instead. He later explored the series' history upon landing the role.

The movie, directed by Wes Ball, is scheduled for release on 30 April 2027. Production occurred mostly in New Zealand.

Ainsworth also stars as Daeron Targaryen in House of the Dragon Season 3. Nintendo recently announced an Ocarina of Time remake for Switch 2 in 2026.
