Casation court confirms dismissal of Santiago Caputo in threats case

The Federal Chamber of Criminal Cassation upheld the dismissal of presidential adviser Santiago Caputo in the case filed by deputy Facundo Manes over alleged threats during the opening of sessions in Congress.

The court unanimously rejected the plaintiff's appeal and upheld the ruling that no crime had occurred. Judges Mariano Hernán Borinsky, Gustavo Hornos and Javier Carbajo of Chamber IV explained that the statements took place amid political confrontation.

The reported events date back to March 1, 2025, during President Javier Milei's speech. Manes said Caputo confronted him in a hallway and uttered phrases such as “vos para hacer lo que hiciste, tenés que estar limpio” and “ya me vas a conocer”.

The magistrates ruled that those words do not amount to a criminal threat because they belong to a political dispute. Prosecutors had also maintained in prior instances that no crime existed.

This decision makes Caputo's dismissal for lack of crime final.
