ESDM and Pertamina find no water in East Java fuel

Indonesia's Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) found no water content in Pertalite fuel from Tuban and Surabaya terminals after complaints of stalling motorcycles in East Java. Pertamina Patra Niaga, along with ESDM's Directorate General of Oil and Gas and Lemigas, conducted inspections at several stations on Wednesday. Laboratory tests confirmed the fuel meets quality standards.

Complaints from East Java residents about motorcycles stalling after refueling at Pertamina stations prompted immediate inspections. On Wednesday, teams from Pertamina Patra Niaga, the Directorate General of Oil and Gas (Ditjen Migas) under the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), and Lemigas directly checked stations in Gresik and Surabaya. The main goals were to verify fuel quality and adherence to operational standards in the field.

"From the test results, all samples showed good condition and met standards. This procedure is routinely carried out at every station before operations," said ESDM's Director General of Oil and Gas Laode Sulaeman when confirmed by ANTARA from Jakarta.

Laode added that the inspection also covered Pertamina's risk mitigation steps, including consumer complaint mechanisms now available at stations. "We directly inspected stations in Gresik and Surabaya to ensure the risk mitigation steps taken by Pertamina, including the consumer complaint mechanisms now available at stations," he said.

Pertamina Patra Niaga's President Director Mars Ega Legowo Putra expressed apologies for the inconvenience caused to consumers. "We extend our deepest apologies to all consumers who experienced discomfort from this incident," he stated. Laboratory tests confirmed that Pertalite from the Tuban and Surabaya fuel terminals complies with applicable quality standards.

Despite the positive initial findings, Pertamina is continuing further investigations at the station level to check the distribution chain. The company is committed to responsibly following up on every report. Consumers can report via the last purchase station or contact Pertamina's Call Center 135 by phone, email, or social media DM.
