Antonelli, a 19-year-old in his second year with Mercedes, claimed his first F1 victory at the Chinese Grand Prix. This result placed him second in the drivers' standings after two races, trailing teammate George Russell. Many observers suggested the win positioned Antonelli for a title fight this year. Steiner acknowledged the milestone's value, stating, 'I think it gives him a lot of confidence because there was an opportunity for him.' He noted Antonelli capitalized on Russell's qualifying troubles, where a front wing failure in Q2 and restart issues in Q3 limited the Briton to second on the grid.
