Meta announces plus subscription plans for its apps

Meta has announced the global rollout of consumer subscription plans for Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp. The move introduces new paid tiers aimed at power users, creators and businesses.

Meta said the new Plus plans are tailored to each app. Instagram Plus and Facebook Plus focus on social expression while WhatsApp Plus emphasises personalisation and messaging features.

The company stated that Instagram Plus will allow subscribers to view story re-watch counts, create custom audience lists beyond close friends, extend stories past 24 hours and preview stories without appearing as viewers. Facebook Plus offers similar tools.

WhatsApp Plus includes app themes, custom ringtones, additional pinned chats, list customisation and premium stickers. Separate Meta AI plans named Meta One Plus and Meta One Premium are also being tested, with the premium tier providing deeper reasoning for complex tasks.

Naomi Gleit, Meta's head of product, noted that the AI and professional plans remain experimental. The new offerings do not replace the existing Meta Verified service.
