Michigan man charged in brutal assault on girlfriend's brother

A 46-year-old Michigan man faces serious charges after allegedly beating his girlfriend's 61-year-old brother with a weightlifting bar while the victim slept on a couch. Jevonn Green struck the man several times on the head before instructing his girlfriend to call 911. The victim remains in critical condition with a skull fracture and brain bleed.

Jevonn Green arrived at his home in Chesterfield Township, Michigan, on Sunday and found his girlfriend's brother asleep on the couch. Authorities say Green then hit the 61-year-old man repeatedly on the head with a weightlifting bar. He woke his girlfriend and told her to dial 911 for her brother, according to the Macomb County Prosecutor's Office. The incident occurred in a home northeast of Detroit that Green shared with the couple. The victim was rushed to a hospital and, as of Thursday, was still in critical condition suffering from a decompressed skull fracture and brain bleed. Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido described the alleged attack as 'extremely troubling,' noting that the victim was 'completely defenseless' while sleeping. 'Domestic violence is not limited to romantic partners,' Lucido said. 'If you are the victim of domestic violence, call 911 in the event of an emergency.' Green, 46, has been charged with assault with intent to murder, aggravated domestic violence, and assault with a dangerous weapon. As this is his fourth offense, conviction on any charge carries a mandatory minimum of 25 years in prison, with a possible life sentence. He was arrested and held in Macomb County Jail on a $250,000 bond. At his Thursday arraignment, Green's defense attorney successfully requested a psychiatric evaluation. If released, he must wear a GPS tether, undergo drug testing three times weekly, stay away from the home, and avoid alcohol and drugs. He is due back in court on April 16.
