William Mouw boiled his putter overnight to turn around a cold start at the ISCO Championship. The move helped him post a strong second round and stay in contention.
Mouw finished the first round at Hurstbourne Country Club in Louisville five shots behind leader Lucas Glover after losing more than two shots on the greens.
He jokingly placed the putter in boiling water overnight. On Friday he carded a bogey-free 7-under 63, gained more than two shots on the greens, and made birdie putts from 26, 23 and 20 feet.
Mouw said the putter stayed hot throughout the round and that he plans to repeat the process before the weekend. Glover noted the change in the club’s appearance but avoided asking about it to preserve the momentum.
The 36-hole leader sits at 13 under par while Mouw trails by four shots heading into the final rounds.
