Authority seeks another name change

Integritetsskyddsmyndigheten has requested a name change to Dataskyddsmyndigheten. The authority says the current name creates misunderstandings and fails to reflect its supervisory role.

Integritetsskyddsmyndigheten (IMY) has turned to the government with a request to change its name. The authority wants to be called Dataskyddsmyndigheten instead.

This would be the second name change in five years. On 1 January 2021 the agency switched from Datainspektionen to Integritetsskyddsmyndigheten.

In its press release IMY states that the current name does not clearly show its role as a supervisory authority. The name also leads to recurring misunderstandings and a risk of confusion with other agencies.

A new name would, according to the authority, better reflect the mission and reduce confusion.
