Myndighet ber om nok et navnebytte

Integritetsskyddsmyndigheten har sendt forespørsel om å endre navn til Dataskyddsmyndigheten. Myndigheten uttaler at det nåværende navnet skaper misforståelser og ikke reflekterer tilsynsrollen deres.

Integritetsskyddsmyndigheten (IMY) har henvendt seg til regjeringen med en forespørsel om å endre navn. Myndigheten ønsker å hete Dataskyddsmyndigheten i stedet.

Dette ville være det andre navnebyttet på fem år. 1. januar 2021 endret etaten navn fra Datainspektionen til Integritetsskyddsmyndigheten.

I sin pressemelding opplyser IMY at det nåværende navnet ikke tydelig viser rollen som tilsynsmyndighet. Navnet fører også til gjentatte misforståelser og risiko for forveksling med andre etater.

Et nytt navn vil ifølge myndigheten bedre reflektere oppdraget og redusere forvirring.
