Lando Norris put a difficult Canadian Grand Prix behind him by meeting former teammate Daniel Ricciardo and Conor Daly after the Indianapolis 500. McLaren started both its drivers on intermediate tyres at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, a decision that proved costly when rain failed to materialise.
McLaren team principal Andrea Stella defended the call to fit intermediates for Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri. He noted that light rain had fallen in the morning and the track remained greasy at the time the decision was required, five minutes before the start. Extra formation laps for a stricken Racing Bulls car further reduced any potential advantage from the strategy.
