Chile's Policía de Investigaciones (PDI) has detained a 27-year-old man who confessed to a homicide in Coquimbo's Tierras Blancas sector on Friday night. The victim, a 42-year-old man, died in a public street after being attacked with a cutting weapon. The suspect faces a detention review in Coquimbo's Guarantee Court on Sunday.
Detectives from PDI's Homicide Brigade arrested the 27-year-old Chilean suspect with prior police records, following a detention order from the Public Ministry. Investigations started in the early hours of Saturday after the fatal attack in Tierras Blancas, Coquimbo commune.
La Serena Homicide Brigade chief José Cáceres stated: “Our criminal analysis work, in coordination with the Public Ministry, allowed us to gather evidence and secure a detention order against a 27-year-old Chilean man with police records, as a confessed perpetrator of the crime, proceeding with his apprehension today.”
The man will be presented to the Public Ministry for detention review on Sunday, April 12, at Coquimbo's Guarantee Court. PDI confirmed the perpetrator's identity and responsibility through coordinated investigative efforts.
