Nick Cave pays tribute to Shane MacGowan at Ireland show

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds performed the Pogues song "A Rainy Night in Soho" as a tribute to the late Shane MacGowan during a concert at Malahide Castle & Gardens in Ireland on Wednesday.

Cave, who shared a close friendship with MacGowan, sang the track while playing piano. His delivery included a quiver in his voice during the nostalgic lyrics. Violinist Warren Ellis added a soulful solo.

After finishing, Cave remarked "Wow, all right" with a chuckle. The performance served as an elegy for MacGowan, who died in 2023.

The set also featured the first performance of "Train Long-Suffering" since 1989 and "Stranger Than Kindness" since 2015. Other artists have covered the Pogues song in recent years, including U2 in 2023 and Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band on an upcoming tribute album.
