A 41-year-old Ohio woman has pleaded guilty to reckless homicide and child endangering in the 2023 death of her infant son. Krystal D. Krause appeared in Lake County Court on Thursday. This marks her second conviction for the death of a child.
Krause admitted responsibility for the death of her two-month-old son, identified in court documents as DK. Prosecutors said the infant suffocated after being placed in an unsafe sleep environment despite repeated warnings from doctors and caregivers.
Officers responded to the family home on Ridge Road in Wickliffe on November 15, 2023. The child was found unresponsive and pronounced dead at the scene.
Krause had previously been convicted in the 2009 drowning death of her three-year-old son. She served a two-year prison sentence after pleading guilty to reckless homicide and child endangering in that case.
She is scheduled to appear for sentencing on August 13. Court records indicate she faces between 18 months and six years in prison along with a possible fine of up to $20,000.
