Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a four-and-a-half-hour meeting with his council of ministers on Thursday to review reforms and address the impact of the West Asia crisis on energy supplies.
The meeting began at 5 pm on Thursday at Sewa Tirth and lasted more than four hours. It was attended by cabinet ministers, ministers of state with independent charge and other ministers of state. This was the first full cabinet meeting of the year and came just before the second anniversary of Modi’s third term on June 9.
Prime Minister Modi directed ministers to keep the goal of a developed India by 2047 in focus. He stressed ease of living and reforms while calling for reduced red tape and quicker delivery of schemes.
The West Asia crisis and its effect on energy supplies due to the Strait of Hormuz deadlock were also discussed. Modi urged exploration of alternatives such as biogas. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar briefed ministers on the Prime Minister’s recent five-nation tour.
Presentations were made by nine ministries on reforms and programmes. Ministers congratulated the Prime Minister on the outcomes of his foreign visit.
