The Simpsons collaborates with Los Tigres del Norte on new song

The long-running animated series The Simpsons is set to feature the regional Mexican band Los Tigres del Norte in an upcoming episode. The group will perform an original song titled “El Corrido de Pedro y Homero” during the broadcast on December 28. This collaboration highlights Mexican culture and includes contributions from notable figures in Latin American entertainment.

The episode, titled “The Fall Guy-Yi-Yi,” focuses on the character Bumblebee Man and serves as a tribute to Latin American audiences, particularly those connected to Mexican heritage. Co-executive producer Cesar Mazariegos described it as “a love letter of sorts to our Latin American fans, and to Mexican culture specifically.” The storyline incorporates voices from acclaimed talent, including Academy Award-winning director Alejandro González Iñárritu and Humberto Vélez, who provides the Latin American dubbing for Homer Simpson.

To add a musical element, the production team opted for a corrido, a traditional folkloric ballad, to wrap up the narrative. Mazariegos explained, “We thought a corrido... retelling the story of the episode would be an awesome way to close it out, and who better than ‘los Jefes de Jefes’ themselves, los Tigres del Norte.” The band, renowned for over 50 years of addressing social issues like immigration through their music, aligns well with the series' history of tackling societal themes.

Now in its 37th season, The Simpsons has frequently explored cultural and political topics on Fox. Los Tigres del Norte's appearance includes animated depictions of the band members in their signature attire, joined by Homer in a charro hat and Bumblebee Man, referenced as Pedro from a prior episode. An Instagram post from the announcement captured the spirit: “A legendary band. An original song. A very Simpsons twist.”

The episode will air on Fox and be available to stream on Disney+. This partnership underscores the show's ongoing commitment to diverse storytelling and cultural representation.

Both Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, acclaimed series in Vince Gilligan's universe, face criticism for their handling of Spanish language despite their overall praise. Set in Albuquerque, New Mexico, the shows feature key characters speaking Spanish, but the dialogue and accents often fall short, particularly from the perspective of fluent speakers. This issue highlights a common flaw in portraying Latin American characters.
