Ángela Vivanco leaves preventive prison and moves to total house arrest

Former Supreme Court minister Ángela Vivanco left San Joaquín prison this Friday after 133 days in preventive detention. The Santiago Court of Appeals revoked the measure due to health reasons and her mother's situation.

Shortly before 18:00 on Friday, June 12, 2026, Vivanco left the Centro Penitenciario Femenino de San Joaquín. She had been held there since January 30 as part of the Bielorrusa case investigation.

The Santiago Court of Appeals revoked the preventive detention and ordered total house arrest. The 63-year-old former judge explained that she has cancer and needs medical exams that cannot be performed at the prison hospital.

Vivanco stated: “As I have always said, I declare myself innocent. I want to defend myself in a fair trial.” She will serve the measure in an apartment rented by her partner and will request permits to visit her 86-year-old mother.
