Over 170 oaks were moved in Ultuna in autumn 2025 to make way for the planned tramway. Researchers at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences now present the first results after more than six months.
The relocation took place in November 2025 at a cost of just over 10 million kronor. The project was chosen instead of felling the trees and planting new ones.
Twelve of the oaks were fitted with measuring instruments that record stem growth, light uptake in the crown as well as temperature and humidity. The measurements continue during spring and summer.
Researcher Petter Åkerblom comments on the trees' future in a segment from SVT.
