General motors to assemble chevrolet aveo at coahuila plant

General Motors announced it will assemble the Chevrolet Aveo at its Ramos Arizpe plant in Coahuila starting in 2027. The move is part of Plan México to cut Asian imports and boost domestic production. The model ranks among Mexico's top sellers.

Francisco Garza Rodríguez, president and CEO of General Motors de México, confirmed the project during a conference at the Coahuila plant. He said assembly of the Chevrolet Groove will begin in 2027, followed by the Aveo, which is a favorite of President Claudia Sheinbaum.

According to Inegi data, the Aveo sold 61,064 units in 2025, ranking second only to the Nissan Versa. In the first four months of 2026, 23,726 Aveo units were sold.

Economy Secretary Marcelo Ebrard said local production of 80,000 vehicles will replace Asian imports. The project aims to strengthen Mexico's automotive industry and create jobs.
