Hasbro announced a $56 million impairment charge in its second quarter earnings related to canceled digital game projects. The company is refocusing its portfolio for 2028 and beyond while continuing work on two key titles.
Hasbro has canceled several internal game projects scheduled for release in 2028 and later, according to its latest earnings report. This led to the impairment charge on assets previously valued higher by the company.
Exodus, a sci-fi RPG from Archetype Entertainment, and Warlock, a Dungeons & Dragons project from Invoke Studios, remain in development with planned releases in 2027. Hasbro confirmed both meet its criteria for owned publishing.
The company is shifting strategy toward more co-development and co-publishing deals with lower-cost partners. It will prioritize trading card games and RPGs based on existing properties like Dungeons & Dragons and Magic: The Gathering.
Chief executive Chris Cocks stated that Hasbro is focusing investment on franchises and platforms with the clearest upside. The firm plans to maintain one to two significant releases per year but with changes in spending and market approach.
