A major fire broke out in a warehouse in Älvsjö, southern Stockholm, on Thursday evening. The blaze remained out of control past midnight with smoke spreading across the southern part of the city.
The alarm about the fire came in at 20:30 on Thursday evening. Tommy Wållberg, operations officer at the rescue services, stated that around 60-70 firefighters were on site.
The fire had spread to the roof of the 16,000 square metre property. Wållberg said internal extinguishing was no longer possible and that the work was expected to continue through the night.
Police have opened a preliminary investigation into gross arson. Carina Skagerlind, police press spokesperson, confirmed that the inquiry aims to enable further investigative measures. No personal injuries have been reported.
