A 21-year-old Minnesota man pleaded guilty to first-degree assault after shooting another man in the face during an incident at a park last year. The plea came as part of a deal that sets a prison term of seven to nearly 11 years.
Ibrahim Ali Mohamed entered the guilty plea on Monday in Dakota County District Court. The charge stems from an event on May 10, 2025, at Kelley Park in Apple Valley.
Mohamed had gone to the park with friends to locate his sister using his phone. An argument with another group escalated when he struck people with his gun and then fired at a vehicle entering the area.
The 18-year-old victim was struck in the face and suffered life-threatening injuries to his face, neck and chest. Court records note that 10 shots were fired in total and that investigators found no evidence of return fire.
Mohamed is slated to be sentenced on Oct. 7 under the terms of his plea agreement.
