A green tide of teachers, families and students marched through central Valencia on Saturday during the eleventh day of an indefinite strike in non-university public education in the Valencian Community.
The demonstration, called by STEPV, UGT PV, CSIF, CCOO PV and ANPE, started at Plaza de San Agustín and ended at Plaza del Ayuntamiento. According to the Government Delegation, more than 30,000 people took part in the march, which unfolded in a festive atmosphere with chants such as "consellera, dimisión" aimed at Carmen Ortí.
The unions announced they will deliver a more detailed counter-proposal to the Conselleria de Educación on Monday, including improvements in ratios, infrastructure and promotion of Valenciano. Marc Candela, coordinator of union action at STEPV, said the demands seek to "improve the attention of our children".
The Conselleria said it will resume talks once it receives the document. Representatives from UGT PV and CCOO PV highlighted family support, noting that 80 or 90 percent of the demands concern pupil welfare.
