Seven people died early Tuesday morning after a truck collided with a Red bus at Avenida Santa Rosa and Franklin. The smaller vehicle ran a red light while fleeing Carabineros officers.
The incident took place shortly after 5:00 a.m. on July 14, 2026. A group drinking alcohol in public fled in a truck upon seeing Carabineros, who pursued them. The truck ran a red light and hit the bus, which then struck a pharmacy.
The collision sparked a fire that burned the diesel bus. Five women and two men died, all Venezuelan nationals and occupants of the truck. The bus driver was taken to a medical facility.
One hundred firefighters from 12 companies responded. Security SEREMI Juan Andrés Barrientos asked relatives to visit the Legal Medical Service to identify victims using DNA samples.
