The Boy Scouts of the Philippines has posthumously awarded its highest honor for bravery to 15-year-old Scout Chris Lorenz Fabian, who died shielding classmates during a June 22 school shooting in Tacloban City.
Fabian, a Grade 10 student, rushed to close and block the classroom door to stop the shooter from entering. The award citation stated he placed his body in harm’s way, shielding his teacher and classmates and giving 30 students time to hide safely.
BSP leaders visited the Fabian family in Tacloban to present the medal and certificate. Officials said he acted as a scout who is brave, loyal and helpful at all times.
The Pampanga Sangguniang Panlalawigan also declared Fabian the “Pride of Pampanga” through Resolution 10319, citing his extraordinary courage and noble sacrifice. His parents are originally from Barangay Lourdes, Minalin and Brgy. Dau, Mabalacat City.
