Fernando Alonso has raised concerns that Aston Martin's ongoing gearbox problems could lead to crashes during the Monaco Grand Prix. The two-time world champion highlighted random downshifts that have affected the team since the Miami race.
Alonso said the issue must be addressed before the tight streets of Monaco. He noted that a sudden downshift could cause the car to lock up and hit the barriers. The problem stems from Aston Martin's switch to Honda power units and in-house gearboxes. Alonso described situations where the car loses sync at low speeds, forcing drivers to re-sync gears manually. Lance Stroll echoed the concerns, pointing out difficulties at low-speed corners like the Loews hairpin. Alonso added that the team made some progress in Canada but expects Monaco to reveal whether further fixes are needed. He expressed limited expectations for points in the race, citing the gap to the top teams.
