Lance Stroll blames Monaco crash on Honda engine braking

Aston Martin driver Lance Stroll attributed his Monaco Grand Prix crash to ongoing Honda power unit issues. The incident ended his race on lap 57.

Stroll was running 16th when he went straight on at Antoine Noghes corner and hit the TecPro barrier. He described engine braking problems that had persisted all season and affected multiple corners. On that particular corner and lap it just pushed him into the wall, like the throttle pedal was 50% open, Stroll said after the race. He rejected suggestions that a breaking track surface played a role. Team ambassador Pedro de la Rosa offered a different emphasis, noting that both drivers pushed hard despite inconsistencies in the deceleration phase. He said analysis of the issue is ongoing and solutions are being prepared for the next race. Fernando Alonso had raised similar concerns earlier in the weekend after losing control in practice.
