The second full moon of May, known as the Blue Moon, will peak on May 31 at 3:45 a.m. in Colombia. The astronomical event will be visible on the night of May 30 to 31 if weather conditions allow.
The event occurs because the 29.5-day lunar cycle allows two full moons in one calendar month. The first appeared on May 1, 2026, and the second will arrive before May ends.
This Blue Moon will coincide with lunar apogee, making it a micromoon. The satellite will appear slightly smaller and less bright, though the difference will be hard to notice with the naked eye.
Experts recommend viewing from sites with low light pollution and a clear horizon. No telescope is needed, but binoculars will help appreciate craters and lunar seas.
