Chile's Ministry of Foreign Affairs called a high-level meeting on May 28 in Santiago to coordinate actions against transnational organized crime.
The meeting will bring together foreign and security ministers from Argentina, Bolivia, Ecuador, Peru and Chile. The goal is to agree on concrete measures for border coordination, information exchange and the fight against drug trafficking.
Chancellor Francisco Pérez Mackenna said organized crime is a scourge affecting Latin America. “This meeting is a first step to strengthen our borders and to fight crime united in the region”, he stated.
Pérez Mackenna added that a joint plan with specific tasks is expected. Attending from Argentina are Pablo Quirno and Alejandra Monteoliva, from Bolivia Fernando Aramayo Carrasco, from Ecuador Gabriela Sommerfeld Rosero and Andrés Ribadeneira Brown, from Peru Carlos Pareja and José Zapata Morante, and from Chile Pérez Mackenna along with Martín Arrau.
