José Manuel Restrepo, the elected Vice President, asked President Gustavo Petro to formally begin the presidential transition process.
The request was made through a letter sent on July 1, 2026. Restrepo, on behalf of President-elect Abelardo De La Espriella, asked for the transition to be orderly, audited, verifiable and public to ensure the handover of institutional information.
The document proposes activating the coordinating team led by Finance Minister Germán Ávila. Each ministry and national entity must designate two officials as liaisons to facilitate technical and operational coordination.
Restrepo also invited the Attorney General's Office and the Comptroller General's Office to accompany the process with preventive functions. The government handover is scheduled for August 7.
