IDT and Seguros Sura partner for health services to tourists in Bogotá

Bogotá's Instituto Distrital de Turismo (IDT) and Seguros Sura have signed a partnership to provide health services to international tourists, particularly those on extended layovers at El Dorado Airport. This initiative is part of the StopOver Bogotá strategy, allowing travelers to extend their stay up to 48 hours without extra ticket costs. The goal is to position the capital as a competitive destination for health tourism in Latin America.

The partnership between Bogotá's Instituto Distrital de Turismo (IDT) and Seguros Sura aims to combine tourist experiences with access to medical checkups and specialized services in the capital. Targeted mainly at tourists on stopovers—prolonged flight connections—it allows travelers to extend their stay in the city for up to 48 hours without additional ticket costs.

Ángela Garzón Caicedo, the IDT's general director, emphasized that “the goal is to capture the attention of international tourists passing through El Dorado Airport on connections, so they discover that Bogotá has a diverse, world-class tourist offering that motivates them to stay. We want those who only see the city from the airport to now live it, explore it, and choose it”.

For its part, Seguros Sura provides its network of care in Colombia, which includes nearly 1,500 clinics and hospitals. Ana María Medina, director of International Market Development at Seguros Sura Colombia, stated that “the StopOver strategy is an opportunity for travelers to discover Bogotá in a more complete way. From Sura, we seek to accompany them with expert guidance and access to health services that provide peace of mind, confidence, and an experience aligned with international standards during their time in the city”.

This collaboration is part of efforts to promote Bogotá nationally and internationally as an attractive destination for health tourism in the region. The agreement signing featured Garzón Caicedo and Medina.
