أقر المجلس التشريعي في ولاية إلينوي مشروع قانون يجعل الولاية الأولى التي تحظر استخدام النظارات الذكية المدعومة بالذكاء الاصطناعي أثناء القيادة. وينتظر الإجراء حالياً توقيع الحاكم جي بي بريتزكر.

يضيف التشريع بنوداً جديدة إلى قوانين القيادة الحالية التي تقيد بالفعل استخدام الهواتف المحمولة. ويشير النص صراحة إلى النظارات الذكية التي تعمل بالذكاء الاصطناعي، ويفرض غرامات تصل إلى 75 دولاراً للمخالفة الأولى و150 دولاراً للمخالفات المتكررة. يمكن للسائقين الاستمرار في استخدام هذه الأجهزة أثناء توقف المركبة أو في حالات توقف حركة المرور. أما في حال وقوع حادث يؤدي إلى إصابة خطيرة أو وفاة، فستبلغ الغرامة حداً أدنى قدره 1,000 دولار. وصرح متحدث باسم الحاكم بأن مكتبه سيراجع مشروع القانون بعناية فور استلامه، حيث يمتلك بريتزكر مهلة 60 يوماً للتوقيع عليه أو استخدام حق النقض (الفيتو) بعد تسلمه رسمياً.
