President José Antonio Kast clarified on Thursday that his campaign promise to expel 300,000 irregular migrants was a hyperbole, not a metaphor, while touring the Atacama region. The remarks follow similar comments he made the previous day that drew sharp opposition criticism.
During his visit to Caldera, Kast explained that ordinary citizens understand the government's actions. He mentioned the planes carrying irregular immigrants and the border closure, which has reduced clandestine entries.
The president also defended the security plan of Minister Trinidad Steinert. He highlighted progress in controlling gangs and drug seizures in the northern border, including areas such as Chacalluta and Colchane.
At the same time, Kast reiterated the need to evaluate the Local Public Education Services. He noted that Atacama has suffered problems in this area and called for analysis of what is best for children.
