أكدت وزارة الصحة الكينية للمواطنين جاهزيتها الكاملة لمواجهة تهديدات فيروس إيبولا، وذلك في أعقاب تقارير تفيد بأن الولايات المتحدة قد ترسل مرضى تعرضوا للفيروس إلى كينيا للمراقبة.

أعلن وزير الصحة، عدن دوالي، في 27 مايو أن كينيا تقوم بإنشاء مناطق احتجاز عند نقاط الحدود مع أوغندا وجمهورية الكونغو الديمقراطية. وقد نشرت الحكومة فرق فحص ومختبرات متنقلة في المعابر الرئيسية، مع تشغيل ثلاثة مختبرات وطنية على مدار الساعة لإجراء الاختبارات.

وأضاف دوالي أن المسؤولين يتتبعون أي شخص زار المناطق المتضررة خلال الشهر الماضي، وحث العائلات على طلب الرعاية لأقاربهم الذين تظهر عليهم أعراض بعد السفر إلى أوغندا أو جمهورية الكونغو الديمقراطية. وقد تم فحص أكثر من 55 ألف شخص عند نقاط الدخول دون تسجيل أي حالات إيجابية.

وأصدرت وزارة الصحة بياناً أشارت فيه إلى وجود مناقشات جارية مع الولايات المتحدة بشأن الاستعداد لفيروس إيبولا، لكنها أكدت أن أي تعاون سيتم وفقاً للقوانين الوطنية ومعايير السلامة الحيوية في كينيا. وأشارت تقارير صادرة عن صحيفتي "وول ستريت جورنال" و"نيويورك تايمز" إلى أن الإدارة الأمريكية تدرس إنشاء منشأة للحجر الصحي في كينيا في انتظار الموافقة، مع وجود خطط لنشر مسؤولي صحة عامة في حال تمت الموافقة على ذلك.
