تجري كينيا مناقشات متقدمة مع شركة كاربوورشيب (Karpowership) لنشر محطات طاقة عائمة بهدف تخفيف حدة نقص الكهرباء في جميع أنحاء البلاد.

تجري الحكومة الكينية محادثات مع شركة كاربوورشيب التي تتخذ من إسطنبول مقراً لها منذ عام 2024. وتشغل الشركة 45 سفينة يمكنها توليد أكثر من 8000 ميجاوات، كما يمكنها تشغيل محطة في أقل من 30 يوماً. بلغت ذروة الطلب رقماً قياسياً قدره 2.4 جيجاوات في عام 2025. وقد أدى قرار تجميد اتفاقيات الطاقة الجديدة من عام 2018 حتى نوفمبر 2025 إلى الحد من نمو الإمدادات. وتبلغ القدرة المتعاقد عليها 2.9 جيجاوات، بينما تبلغ هامش الاحتياطي 2.3 في المئة فقط. وكان من المتوقع في البداية أن يبدأ المشروع بحلول ديسمبر 2026، ويُنظر إليه كتدبير مؤقت لتحقيق استقرار الشبكة حتى تصبح المشاريع طويلة الأجل جاهزة.
