Krafton has committed to developing the Subnautica series into a franchise IP following the rapid commercial success of Subnautica 2. The publisher shared the update in its second quarter 2026 earnings report.
Subnautica 2 reached 5 million units sold just 22 days after its early access launch on May 14 this year. The full series, including the original game and Below Zero expansion, generated 232.5 billion KRW or about £121 million in revenue during the first half of the financial year.
Krafton stated it will maintain stable service through the full launch while building the underwater survival series into a broader franchise IP.
The announcement comes after Krafton acquired Unknown Worlds in 2021 and a period of internal changes at the studio. Subnautica 2 continues to receive updates ahead of its eventual 1.0 release.
